Good afternoon everyone,
Following the feedback received through the Shop Talk survey conducted at the MCMA Annual Conference, the Education Committee is pleased to announce our inaugural Shop Talk session. The session will be held virtually on Thursday, October 22, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The survey results identified considerable interest among members in hearing from Patrick Rhooms of the City of Toronto and learning from his knowledge, experience, and perspectives. We are pleased that Patrick has graciously agreed to lead our first session, helping us launch this new professional development initiative.
Session Topic: Appeals and Reopening’s – Funds Not Adjusted Prior to Transfer
This session will focus on appeals and reopening’s where funds have not been adjusted before transfer, providing an opportunity to explore the issue, share experiences, and discuss practical considerations relevant to municipal administration and court operations.
The Shop Talk initiative represents an important step in strengthening professional development, promoting knowledge sharing, and creating meaningful opportunities for participants to connect, exchange ideas, and discuss challenges relevant to their roles. Our goal is to establish an ongoing series of engaging, member-driven sessions that reflect the interests and needs of the broader municipal administration community.
Participation is not limited to MCMA members. Although this invitation is being distributed to the MCMA membership, we encourage you to share it with any staff within your organization who may benefit from the discussion. These sessions are intended to support learning and collaboration across the broader municipal administration community, and we welcome participation from anyone who may find the topic relevant to their work.
We would like to thank Patrick for supporting this initiative and sharing his expertise with our participants. We encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to engage in the discussion, exchange knowledge, and contribute to the continued development of the Shop Talk series.
Unable to Attend?
We understand that not everyone will be able to attend the session live. To ensure this learning opportunity is accessible to as many people as possible, the session will be recorded and made available on the MCMA website for those who are unable to participate. This will allow members and other municipal staff to access the discussion at a later time and benefit from the knowledge and insights shared.
We look forward to your participation in this inaugural session and to building a successful, ongoing series that strengthens professional knowledge and collaboration across our municipal community.
